Discounts, coupons & customer groups — rules
The home of record for how the counter applies money off a cart. The how-to pages (discount, coupon, customer) link here for the rules.
Only one discount applies at a time
The counter applies a single discount to the cart, by this priority — applying a higher one clears the others:
| Priority | Discount | Set by |
|---|---|---|
| 1 (highest) | Customer-group discount | Attaching a customer in a discounted group — automatic |
| 2 | Coupon | Entering / picking a coupon code |
| 3 (lowest) | Manual cart discount | The Discount dialog |
Clearing the customer removes the group discount.
Manual cart discount
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Types | Percentage or Fixed Amount |
| Percentage limit | ≤ 100% |
| Fixed-amount limit | less than the subtotal |
| How it’s spread | proportionally across all cart lines |
| Reason | optional |
| Permission | requires discount permission |
Coupons

| Check | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Date window | within the coupon’s valid dates |
| Minimum purchase | cart subtotal ≥ the coupon’s minimum |
| Store / group restriction | allowed for this store / customer group |
In the Available coupons list, eligible codes are highlighted; codes below their minimum purchase are dimmed with the shortfall shown.
Customer-group discount
- Applied to the cart the instant a customer in a discounted group is attached — no manual step. Removed when the customer is cleared.
- Highest priority (see the table above).
- Why it works this way and how it differs from other software: Automatic group discounts.
Per-line (single-SKU) discounts
Each cart line has its own Disc % input — enter a percentage there to discount just that item. It is gated by the same discount permission as the cart discount.
