Recommendation types — reference
The home of record for what each suggestion is and what each action does.
The four types
| Type | Plain meaning | When it appears | Who benefits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up-sell | A higher-margin version of this item. | Auto, under a cart line | Pharmacy (margin) |
| Substitution | An equivalent you can sell. | Out of stock, or select any line | Customer (availability) |
| Cross-sell | Frequently bought together. | Cross-sell tab, basket-wide | Both (basket size) |
| Report | Flag a wrong AI suggestion. | Flag on up-sell / substitution | Model quality |
Substitution tiers
Equivalents are ranked by clinical equivalence:
| Tier | Meaning | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Same molecule | A different brand of the same drug. | Swap (interchangeable) |
| Diff. strength | Same drug, different strength (“adjust dose”). | Swap |
| Same class | Same class, different molecule. | Swap* — needs pharmacist approval, logged to the sale |
Each row shows live stock, the price delta (green = cheaper), and molecule·form.
Outcomes of each action
| Action | Outcome |
|---|---|
| Tap Upgrade / Apply | Line swaps to the higher-margin product |
| Tap Substitute / Swap | Out-of-stock or declined line replaced with an in-stock equivalent |
| Swap* (same-class) | Requires pharmacist approval; logged to the sale |
| Add a Cross-sell item | Item added to the basket |
| Send report | Flag sent to Ailaaj for review; suggestion hidden for you immediately; sale unchanged |
Notes
- Cross-sell has no report flag — it’s computed from real sales, not AI.
- The customer is only charged more if the cashier actually upgrades.
